Housebuilder in Coma, Dies after Construction Accident

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. – A construction worker has died days after he fell 30 feet from the balcony of an Ocean Springs home.

Family members said Gerald Moran, 42, had worked in construction all his life and was helping to rebuild a high-profile home at the former site of Del Castle – Legate Place when he fell. He was diagnosed with brain and spinal cord injuries.  Eventually he slipped into a coma and never regained consciousness.

The home he was working on at the time was also known as the Al Capone home, reputed to be a hideout where the Chicago mobster based his rum-running operations during the years of Prohibition.  The home was demolished in 2007 and a new home is being built on the site.
