JACKSON, Miss.- After over four hours of heated debate in the House the bill passes 74 to 46.
The bill will take sole power away from the city of Jackson and allow for Rankin and Madison Counties to have members on the Jackson Municipal Airport Board.
Those opposed to the bill used arguments of racism to back their distaste for the bill.
In an attempt to have the bill die before it could be voted on members of the Black Caucus and Democratic party filled the last two days of House and Senate conversations with a filibuster.
The requested all bills be read allowed, and took personal liberties to basically kill time on the floor.
House Speaker Phillip Gunn says these actions are a disgrace to tax payers. Originally lawmakers would be off for Good Friday but due to these delays they will now work Friday and most likely Saturday as well. Gunn says this could cost tax payers an extra $70,000.
The bill will now go to Gov. Bryant’s desk where it will most likely be signed into law.
