JACKSON, Miss.- Attorney Debra Gibbs has won the Mississippi House special election to fill an empty seat for District 72.
She is replacing Kimberly Campbell who took on the position of AARP Director after serving in the House since 2008. Campbell, of Jackson, was a Democrat.
Gibbs beat out opponent Synarus Green in the runoff. Both did not run with party labels but are identified as Democrats. Gibbs won the race 921 votes to 897 votes.
She is an attorney and has previously served on the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Commission and currently serves as the director of policy and intergovernmental affairs for the city of Jackson.
