A Sunday night hostage situation at a Grenada Walgreens has resulted in the death of the suspect.
Police have identified the suspect as 39-year-old Bradley Hatcher, who may have been dealing with mental health issues. His family told police he was bipolar and suffered from PTSD.
Hatcher was shot and killed by law enforcement after creating a “hostage barricade” situation at the pharmacy on Sunset Drive around 5 p.m. The situation, which did not come to an end until 8:45 p.m., resulted in neighboring highways being closed as law enforcement responded.
According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), no other people were injured during the situation.
“Members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT Team arrived at the location to assist with this critical incident,” a portion of DPS’s official statement reads. “The involved subject received fatal injuries. There were no other serious physical injuries reported to any other individuals at the scene.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will now take over the situation and report any findings to the attorney general’s office.
