With the New Year’s holiday, came a couple of fires across the Magnolia State.
In Quitman County, two homes in Marks caught blaze early Monday morning around 2 a.m. with both being completely burned to the ground. A vehicle was also reported to be on fire outside one of the houses.
Fortunately, no one was injured. It took about four hours for crews alongside the Quitman and Panola County Fire Departments to extinguish the fire.
In Jackson at about the same time, a woman narrowly escaped after her home on West Santa Clair Street caught fire. According to the Jackson Fire Department, the woman had been moving into the home at the time of the fire.
As of now, we have no word if either was caused by fireworks.
