A homeless man was arrested for breaking into Ocean Springs Upper Elementary after he spent two nights there over Veteran’s Day weekend.

Officials with the Ocean Springs Police Department reported that the unidentified homeless man, who is known to the police after previous run-ins, broke into the building on November 9.

He had left the premises before students returned to school on the following Monday, but his brief stay was discovered on surveillance video. A short lockdown was initiated when the break-in the video was seen but no further trouble was caused by the man. He was arrested a few days later.

The man had previously been arrested for breaking and entering into a local business, while also allegedly stealing some items and rearranging others. He had also been in jail in the days leading up to the break-in at the elementary school.
