An 18-year-old is in the custody of law enforcement following a crash that left a Hinds County deputy with injuries.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety reports that Raniyah Wells led Capitol Police officers on a chase in the early hours of Sunday morning after refusing to stop for law enforcement. This occurred on Raymond Road around 3 a.m., per officials.
Things took a turn when Wells reportedly crashed into the deputy, who was working on a detail alongside an Entergy Mississippi power crew. Both the suspect and the unidentified deputy were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Wells faces charges of felony fleeing, driving under the influence, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and possession of a stolen firearm.
