JACKSON, Miss. With August temperatures rising, this probably couldn’t have come at a better time. “Entergy is giving away about 340 of those oscillating fans and window-unit air conditioners,” said spokesperson Mara Hartman.
They are going to elderly, disabled and low income people. “Those very people who are at the most risk in times of extreme heat,” she said.
Entergy Mississippi has donated the fans and AC unites to needed people for the past 15 years. But for the first time ever, they are throwing in a free weatherization kit. “And this will help those customers be more energy efficient so if they do use any more electricity from the fans, hopefully it will be sent off by the weatherization kit,” said Hartman. “So we are trying to not only cool them off, but also teach them how to be a little bit more energy efficient and save dollars on their bills.”
Those getting the fans, AC units and weatherization kits this year have already per-qualified through some charitable groups that work along with Entergy Mississippi.
