GREENVILLE, Miss.–Heavy rain, hail and even tornadoes are possible this weekend and forecasters are keeping their eye on it. The National Weather Service says the Mississippi Delta looks like the prime target.
Meteorologist Mike Edmunston said it looks like it’s shaping up for the worst weather to hit late Saturday.
“As we go into the weekend we’re looking for much warmer than normal temperatures and dew points,” he said. “At the same time there’s a potent storm system moving eastward. With the warm, moist air mass in place, it looks like it could generate the potential for strong to severe storms.”
Edmunston said the storm system is still four days out, so it’s still hard to predict exactly what it’s going to do, but forecast computer models all agree that the likelihood for strong to severe storms is there.
He said heavy rain will also be part of the system and a good drenching of two to three inches could start Friday.
