JACKSON, Miss. – He was preying on the families of prisoners and being called a “Mastermind.”
Jerbarius Neal, 24, had smuggled a cellphone into his cell and was calling inmates’ families, claiming to be a public official.
Neal would then tell the families that their loved ones could get earlier release in exchange for money.
Video footage shows an exchange of $5,000 between a fellow prisoners family and an acquaintance of Neal’s.
The investigation, lead by the Attorney General Jim Hood’s office, took six months.
Neal is already serving a 30 year sentence for burglary.
