About 20 percent of women and 8 percent of men in the U.S. suffer from migraines.
There is now a new experimental cure for the constant headaches. Researchers in Cleveland Ohio have been looking into “daith piercing”. It is a body piercing of the tucked in cartilage ridge of the outer ear.
WLBT reports this piercing supposedly eases the symptoms of a migraine. However piercers and doctors alike are skeptical of the validity to the claims that it cures migraines. Dr. Emad Estemalik, M.D., who is a headache specialist at a Cleveland Clinic says he would never recommend it for a patient, and that he doesn’t see how this procedure could possibly be true. He even went as far as to call it a scam.
He says that some desperation to make a migraine go away might cause people to try this but the risk of infection is too great.
Regardless, people are doing it and saying that it works, so more research will be done to verify those claims.
