DALLAS, Tx.- Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree went through what many would call, a bit of a rough spot over the past few months, but here’s something Dupree can hang his hat on. Last month, DuPree and the city of Hattiesburg were recognized for being the most livable city in America, as voted on by the United States Conference of Mayors at their 83rd annual meeting in Dallas.
There were two divisions: small city, and large city. Hattiesburg was the small city recipient, while Boston won the honor of most livable big city.
The vote took into account mayoral leadership, and the programs developed and implemented to improve the quality of life in the city.
DuPree’s big winner was his education initiatives. He’s developed a series of them that engaged the youth in local, state, and national policy. The city of Hattiesburg has come up with a plan to broaden their youth outreach services called the “Hub City Access-Hattiesburg Area Youth Master Plan.”
