On Wednesday, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office announced an update on the ongoing investigations into communication wire thefts on the Gulf coast.
According to Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, and Hancock County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant Tuesday at Parker’s Scrap located in McHenry.
A previous investigation that resulted in multiple arrests in reference to stolen copper communication wire led investigators to Parker’s Scrap.
During the execution of a search warrant, over 1,400 pounds of copper wire was located and seized. Due to Parker’s lack of proper documentation that required to obtain the wire, the copper was determined to be knowingly stolen and illegally obtained by the business.
The Secretary of State’s Office was notified of Parker’s business operations, and the case has been released to the District Attorney’s office for pending criminal prosecutions. This is an ongoing investigation across multiple jurisdictions that could result in further search warrants and arrests.
