NASHVILLE, Tenn.–Fireworks in Nashville may have sounded just like gunfire and that’s how a Mississippi girl didn’t even know she was hurt right away. Ella Smith, 9, from Saltillo, was shot in the back.
WKRN, Channel 2, in Nashville reported that Smith started complaining of pain in her back and that’s when the family took her to the hospital. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where doctors found a small caliber bullet hole in her back.
Smith was expected to be ok.
Police said another man also got shot, with injuries similar to Smith’s. The bullet likely came down after being fired into the air.
