On Thursday morning, a woman arrived at the Gulfport Police Station to report a crime. However, minutes later, she was running from police and was eventually arrested.
Lt. Jason DuCré with the GPD reported that Daronda Monique Jackson, 49, entered the station at approximately 2:53 a.m. to discuss a hit-and-run incident. An officer then informed Jackson that she had multiple outstanding misdemeanor warrants and she would be placed under arrest.
Jackson explained she needed to tell a juvenile waiting in her car of the arrest, though an officer said he would relay the message. While the officer was speaking with the juvenile in the car, Jackson got into the driver’s seat. Though she said she wouldn’t start the vehicle, Jackson did exactly that – promptly driving in reverse.
The officer was dragged with the vehicle as it hit a nearby sign, though he was able to escape. Jackson fled the scene and was arrested by the Biloxi Police Department after a brief chase.
Jackson is being held on a $250,000 bond at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
