A Gulfport teenager will spend 35 years in prison for robbery and manslaughter.
On Tuesday, District Attorney W. David Parker announced that 18-year-old Lional Jackson pled guilty to his role in robbing another teenager in the fall of 2021 and taking the life of a man in the summer of 2022.
Jackson, who was 15 at the time, and three of his peers were spotted robbing an unidentified male 16-year-old at Gulf Mist Apartments. The group was seen carrying several items belonging to the victim, including his cell phone, headphones, and shoes after beating the victim up.
The three cohorts in the crime have since been sentenced to jail time following their roles in robbing the teenager.
In addition, Jackson admitted guilt for killing 25-year-old Kerry Young at William Bell Apartments in July 2022. Jackson told law enforcement that an argument turned into an altercation inside Young’s apartment and escalated when Young allegedly slapped him in the head, prompting Jackson to open gunfire, which ultimately killed the 25-year-old.
The 18-year-old was given 15 years for robbery and 20 years for manslaughter. He will serve the sentences consecutively with one another.
