The Gulfport Police Department is confirming details surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday.
In a news release, the GPD explained that officers were called to a home on David Street in response to a “domestic dispute.” When they arrived, officers realized that the dispute had become a hostage situation. After attempting to “make verbal dialogue with the suspect,” officers fired. The suspect, who has not been identified at this time, died at the scene while the victim was taken to a local hospital.
The GPD contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation who will handle the investigation. As is standard, the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on “non-enforcement” duties.
Earlier this week, a suspect in Oxford was killed in an officer-involved shooting as well.
