A Mississippi Gulf Coast city is warning residents of an asphalt scam.
Officials in Gulfport are asking folks to be on the alert for traveling asphalt crews that pass through the city each year. These paving crews go around neighborhoods saying they have extra asphalt on their trucks from previous jobs.
The crews allegedly attempt to convince folks to purchase asphalt from them and later charge exorbitant amounts of money for poor-quality work. These crews usually travel with a dump truck, and the trailer is loaded with a roller and a paver. The company represented by the bad actors will usually be out of state.
Police are issuing the public service announcement because while the actions of the crews are deemed unethical and immoral, they are not illegal.
