Yesterday Gulfport police officers arrested 37 year-old Johnny Anthony Carter of Gulfport, charging him with one count of Attempted Murder. The warrants were obtained from Harrison County Justice Court Judge Louise Ladner who set bond at $250,000.
Officers responded to the area of the 4200 block of 20th Street in reference to a firearms discharge. Responding Officers were canvassing the area when they observed a 54 year-old female suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to an area hospital and remains in critical condition.
The resulting investigation revealed that Carter and the victim were engaged in a dispute when Carter retrieved a handgun and shot her twice, once in the body and once in the head while on the porch of a home. He and the victim were acquaintances.
Carter was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
