GULFPORT, Miss.- Alberto Julio Garcia, 31, will undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his trial in the kidnapping, sexual assault, and killing of a five-year-old girl.
Garcia is set to face trial on Oct. 10 for capitol murder charges. He is accused of killing Ja’Naya Thompson.
Thompson went missing from The Palms apartments in Gulfport on July 16, 2014, according to local media. She was found the next morning, hanging by two socks in the bathroom of an empty mobile home. Thompson was pronounced dead. She also showed signs of sexual assault and it was determined she died of asphyxiation due to strangulation.
During a hearing on Monday in the Harrison County Circuit Court the public defender assigned to Garcia told the judge that his psych evaluation had yet to be finished.
