Two Gulfport High School students were arrested on Wednesday for having a firearm on campus.
While no names are being released due to the individuals being underage, the 15-year-old and 16-year-old are each being charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a minor at school.
Per a release from the Gulfport Police Department, school resource officers were advised by other students of the possibility of a weapon on campus. A follow-up investigation resulted in a student in possession of a firearm being located. The gun was seized without incident.
“We would like to express our gratitude and admiration to the courageous students who came forward and reported the presence of a firearm on the school campus,” a statement from GPD reads. “Their actions demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of their fellow students.”
Both juveniles were processed and transported to the Harrison County Youth Detention Center.
