Guard Accused of Smuggling at South Mississippi Prison

LEAKESVILLE, Miss. – A South Mississippi Correctional Institution guard has been arrested for trying to smuggle contraband into the prison.

A Mississippi Department of Corrections news release said 22 cellphones, five Bluetooth devices, 10 cellphone batteries, 15 cigars and about 1.5 pounds of spice were found in Megan Deese’s bag which was x-rayed before she went to her work area Monday.  Deese, 27, was immediately taken into custody, but later released after posting a $5,000.   If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $25,000.
