Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) officials say a wildfire in southeast Mississippi is continuing to burn and already spans more than 2,500 acres.
MFC Wildland Firefighters have been working to quell the flames and have the fire around 35% contained, officials say. The 2,500+ acre fire is abnormally large as the average wildfire in the state is just 19 acres.

Gusty winds and low humidity have combined to elevate the wildfire risk across the Magnolia State. MFC officials are urging Mississippians to avoid outdoor burning until conditions change.
