It’s official! The Hattiesburg Zoo’s highly anticipated Serengeti Springs water park will hold its grand opening on Memorial Day weekend after multiple delays.
In August 2022, the Hattiesburg Convention Commission launched initial plans to open the water park in 2023, but constant rain in Mississippi’s Pine Belt area, as well as supply chain issues, caused unforeseen holdups in the construction process.
But now the outdoor entertainment facility has come to fruition with the public having the opportunity to soak up sunlight and enjoy water-themed rides the weekend ahead of the Monday, May 27 holiday.
One of the water park’s largest attractions, the Fusion Fortress, will have nine slides at varying heights. There will be both straight and spiral slides, with one slide specifically named the “Serengeti Swirl.”
Additional features at the Fusion Fortress will include the following:
- A Lazy River
- Multiple water-play areas
- Two water bucket dump stations
- 19 spray toys on the Life Floor
- Restrooms with changing rooms, showers, and lockers
- A swim-up pool and bar
- Food trucks and concession stations
