There are still close to 20 bills awaiting Governor Tate Reeves signature–including criminal justice reform–and the deadline is midnight tomorrow. Even if he doesn’t sign, they still become law. During a visit to ‘The Gallo Show’ on SuperTalk Mississippi this morning, he was asked about possible veto’s.
“A veto by a Governor in my mind should be left to things that are such of importance that it’s a battle worth fighting. In other words, if I were one of 122 members in the House of Representatives, I would have voted against a lot of this stuff because I don’t know that it’s necessarily the right policy.”
He said there are a number of bills he didn’t sign this year, specifically the Medicaid Tech Bill. “It had provisions in it that I believe really handcuff the Division of Medicaid. And quite frankly, it’s got provisions in there that will make the cost go up significantly.”
Governor Reeves addressed a variety of topics on ‘The Gallo Show’, including prison reform, the initiative to make medicaid expansion a part of the state constitution, whether or not illegals would be housed in Mississippi, the investigation into Centene and more.
