Governor Bryant in one of seven U.S. Governors in support of a Nobel Peace Prize for President Trump.
Amid the potential peace talks and a looming summit between President Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster wrote a letter of the support for the President to Berit Reiss-Andersen – chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
While the meeting between Trump and Kim has not yet taken place, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to North Korea and shortly after, the country announced that they would cease all nuclear testing, dismantle their testing sites, and three American hostages were released.
In McMaster’s letter, he says that President Trump should be commended for these accomplishments.
“Though he has only been in office one year, President Trump has achieved an unprecedented victory for global peace and security. The President’s firm stance against nuclearization, coupled with his willingness to engage one-on-one with Pyongyang, has succeeded in opening new avenues of cooperation, friendship and unity between the two Koreas – and the rest of the world.”
In addition to signing the letter, Governor Bryant expressed his support for the President’s nomination on Twitter and is in agreement that the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula call for commemoration.
“I was proud to sign the letter supporting @realDonaldTrump for the Nobel Peace Prize. What he has accomplished on the Korean Peninsula certainly makes him deserving,” the Governor tweeted.
Governor Bryant and the President’s friendship has been well-documented throughout Trump’s time in office. Bryant was invited to the recent “State of the Union Address” as well as meetings related to the President’s infrastructure plan in D.C.
The letter was also signed by Governors from Maine, Kansas, Alabama, Guam and West Virginia, and ends by saying “There is no one more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.”
The U.S.- North Korea Summit is planned for June 12th in Singapore, but a report says that the meeting may be in jeopardy. According to Fox News, military drills by the U.S. & South Korea could potentially derail the discussions.
“North Korea announced it has canceled a high-level summit with South Korea and is threatening to cancel its meeting with the United States over American military drills with South Korea, Yonhap News said Tuesday, citing KCNA.”
President Trump has not yet commented on the recent developments.
