Last week, Rep. Robert E. Huddleston (D) retired after serving in Mississippi’s House of Representatives for 23 years. Now a special election must be held to fill the open seat in District 30.

Governor Phil Bryant has announced that the election will take place on May 8, 2018.

For those who wish to run, the qualifying deadline is March 19.

On election day, if no candidate receives a majority of votes, a runoff will be held on May 29. District 30 encompasses parts of Bolivar, Quitman, Sunflower and Tallahatchie counties.
