JACKSON, Miss. – Governor Phil Bryant yesterday issued a writ of election setting Nov. 3 as the date to elect a new board of education in Claiborne County.
The governor issued a proclamation on July 7 rescinding the state of emergency in the Claiborne County School District.
In 2013, at the request of the State Board of Education, Gov. Bryant declared a state of emergency in the school district based on serious accreditation issues in the district. The State Board of Education recently found that the serious deficiencies in the district had been corrected and requested that the state of emergency be lifted.
Qualifying for the special election will begin Aug. 5 and the deadline is Sept. 4.
