BILOXI, Miss– Governor Phil Bryant has named Former Governor Haley Barbour and his wife, Marsha, as the heads of the new Katrina Remembrance Commission.
The goal of the commission is to help Mississippi Gulf Coast area organizations promote events that will remember the destruction and tragedy of the storm, as well as celebrate the recovery and rebuilding since that hurricane wreaked havoc on the Coast.
That announcement was made Monday at the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum in Biloxi.
Governor Phil Bryant reflected on the destruction of that storm.
“We came down here the Sunday after the storm,” says Bryant, “and it looked like something out of a science fiction film. Everything was destroyed.”
But Bryant says it was hard to imagine then how everything would be ten years later.
“Look at all the buildings, the museums, the resorts,” says Governor Bryant, “I’m very proud of where we are today.”
