Governor Phil Bryant issued two executive orders regarding the treatment of the Marine plane crash site in Leflore County, as well as how those lost in the crash will be honored.
The first executive order instills protection over the crash site.
“The Marine plane crash site in Leflore County is still active, with emergency and recovery personnel working around the clock,” said Governor Bryant in a statement on Facebook. “Before visiting the site and receiving a briefing this afternoon, I signed a state of emergency that will authorize state assistance, should it be needed, for site security.”
The second executive order immediately lowered state and American flags across Mississippi to mourn the lives of the 16 lost in that crash.
The C-130 Marine plane went down in a soybean field in Leflore County on Monday. There were no survivors. Since then, the Marine Force Reserves, the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and other agencies have worked continuously to evaluate and stabilize the crash site so the investigation can continue.
