Governor Bryant Appoints Two Members to State Board of Education

JACKSON, Miss. – Johnny Franklin and Danny Spreitler have been appointed to the state board of education by Governor Phil Bryant to fill unexpired terms of former board members.

Franklin is from Bolton and started teaching in 1967. During his career, he has been a teacher, an assistant superintendent, the inaugural director of the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science, and the director of the Office of Instructional Development for the Mississippi Department of Education. He also served as the education policy advisor to Governor Phil Bryant and Governor Haley Barbour. His term runs through June 30, 2016.

Spreitler is from Amory and is the former president of the Gilmore Memorial Hospital. He currently serves as the executive director of the Gilmore Foundation, a charity that focuses on expanding access prekindergarten classes in Monroe County. His term runs through June 30, 2021.

Both Spreitler and Franklin also serve on the State Early Childhood Advisory Council (SECAC).
