Gov. Phil Bryant announced Monday he has appointed Steven S. Kilgore district attorney for the Eighth Judicial District. Kilgore replaces Mark Duncan, who Gov. Bryant recently appointed circuit judge for the Eighth District, which encompasses Leake, Neshoba, Newton and Scott counties.
Kilgore’s appointment is effective June 13. The seat will appear on the ballot in November.
“Steven’s decade of experience as a prosecutor makes him a perfect fit to continue his service to the Eighth District as district attorney, and I am happy he has accepted this appointment,” Gov. Bryant said.
Kilgore has served as an assistant district attorney in the Eighth District since July 2007. Prior to that, he spent one year in private practice. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a juris doctorate from the University of Mississippi.
“I am incredibly humbled to gratefully accept the appointment for district attorney from Governor Bryant,” Kilgore said. “We have the best law enforcement in the state and I look forward to continuing the hard work we have been doing to make Leake, Neshoba, Newton and Scott counties the safest district to live, work and worship in the state.”
Kilgore and his wife, Marjorie, live in Philadelphia. They have one daughter and are expecting their second child soon.
