Mississippi has once again been recognized for excellence in economic development by Area Development.
The Shovel Awards are presented to state economic development agencies that demonstrate significant economic development success. Criteria to receive the shovels include the number of high-value-added jobs per capita, the amount of investment, number of new facilities, as well as, industry diversity.
“Our latest Silver Shovel Award is the eighth straight Shovel Award,” said Governor Phil Bryant. “It is a testament to our outstanding workforce and a tax and regulatory environment that allows businesses to thrive. I am so grateful to everyone who has helped us make Mississippi the best place in America to experience the dignity of a good job in pursuit of the American dream.”
Also making headlines in the state were aerospace-related projects: Northrop Grumman in Pascagoula, Stark Aerospace in Columbus, and Precision Machining Services in Clinton. More jobs are growing in the automotive sector, as well as at a banking project in Hattiesburg. The past year also saw a 450-job promise from FedEx Supply Chain in Olive Branch.
