How He Got Away: FCI Yazoo Doesn’t List Much About Inmate Escape

YAZOO CITY, Miss.–Information on an escaped inmate from the federal prison in Yazoo City was scant, other than his vitals. Elizeo Martinez, a 40-year-old Hispanic man, 5 ft. 9, 190, dark hair, brown eyes, got away Friday about 4 p.m. and has been on the run ever since.

Martinez was assigned the Magnolia Work Camp, which appeared to be one of the smaller areas of the prison. He was discovered missing after a head count.

Martinez was in on drug charges and was serving an 18-year sentence.

The Miss. Highway Patrol issued a state-wide alert for Martinez, but so far, no one has provided a picture of the prisoner, which is usually a critical element in finding someone who most people have never seen.

The FCI Yazoo City website was not generous with much info, including specifics on what the Magnolia Work Camp is. The site did say the “camp” has 146 prisoners.

The prison is near the Yazoo River, with plenty of bogs and swamps and cotton fields nearby, but there are some neighborhoods close by and he main part of Yazoo City is just across the highway.
