JACKSON, Miss.- The blood supply in Mississippi is at an all time low coming into the summer months. Merle Eldridge, PR and Communications Manager with Mississippi Blood Services, said that if a tragedy like the Orlando nightclub shooting were to happen in Mississippi it would bring big trouble.
“We have small scale tragedies every day, one single car accident could require 50 units of blood. We actually have to be ahead of the tragedy, we have to have the shelves stocked today for a tragedy tomorrow,” Eldridge said.
Just this week, Mississippi Blood Services announced that their supplies of O+,O-, B+, and B- were critically low. Blood drives are hosted daily all over the state and those can be found by visiting the Mississippi Blood Services’ website.
“Every two seconds someone needs blood and you never know when its going to be you or someone you love that needs it,” said Eldridge.
In addition to blood drives, Mississippi Blood Services has three locations that stay open all week located in Flowood, Oxford, and Greenville.
