JACKSON, Miss.–If you’re on Mississippi Power, you’ve probably been waiting for word on how you’ll get your refund from the improper rate increase from the Kemper Coal Plant. Thursday the state Public Service Commission approved Mississippi Power’s plan to credit your bill.
You can also get a check, if you request it.
The refund that was approved was for $350 million. It will be credited to your bill, starting Oct. 10.
But the company said they need the $159 million per year that a new 18 percent rate increase would bring. They have another meeting with the PSC next week to decide if they can get a temporary increase to help continue the build out of the Kemper Coal Plant, which will operate on lignite technology, a new form of power generation with coal that produces less carbon emissions.
That would mean your bill could go right back up.
