JACKSON, Miss – State lawmakers are hoping free eye-exams will improve reading scores.
15 percent of Mississippi third-graders failed the most recent reading exam.
So far, 60 counties and over 162 doctors have signed onto the program.
Linda Aldi with the Mississippi Optometric Association says, parents won’t have to foot the bill.
The program is available only to third graders and runs through July.
Parents will need to produce the child’s reading score, in order to receive the free exam.
