Going into Sun Belt Media Days, Southern Miss made a last-minute adjustment and pulled running back Frank Gore, Jr.’s name from its list of attendees without providing any reason as to why the change was made.
Expecting Gore’s absence to be one of the first topics brought up Tuesday, Southern Miss head coach Will Hall confirmed to SuperTalk Mississippi News that Gore was scratched after welcoming his first child last week, adding that he’s “very happy” for his star player.
Gore, who is going into his fourth season in Hattiesburg, is coming off a career year in which he rushed for 1,382 yards and nine touchdowns en route to a second-team All-Sun Belt selection. The Miami, Fla., native also broke the FBS bowl record for rushing yards with 329 in Southern Miss’ 38-24 win over Rice in the 2022 LendingTree Bowl.
With the absence of Gore at Sun Belt Media Days, Hall will be joined by senior defensive back Jay Stanley and senior tight end Cole Cavallo. The Golden Eagle trio will take the main stage at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT.
