JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. – There are now four candidates eligible to become Jackson County’s interim sheriff. Supervisors narrowed that list down from 22.
Biloxi Police officer Charles Britt, FBI Safe Streets Task Force agent Louis Gary Miller, retired Mississippi Power Co. security officer Jack R. Walker Jr.’ and former Pascagoula Police Chief Michael Whitmore Sr. are all up for the job.
Former Sheriff Mike Byrd resigned after pleading guilty to a felony.
Chief Deputy Ken Broadus is taking charge as acting sheriff for now. A special election will be held for sheriff in November.
