Four inmates are accused of setting a fire in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
According to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, the jail was set ablaze last Friday causing two inmates and three deputies to be treated for second-degree burn wounds and possible smoke inhalation at a local hospital.
Police report that the following individuals are facing charges in connection with the fire:
- Dylan Langford, 25 — Charged with arson, destruction of county property, and three counts of aggravated assault by arson on a law enforcement officer. He has a total bond of $425,000.00.
- Joshua Newell, 39 — Charged with arson. His bond is set at $100,000.
- Terry Brooks, 43 — Charged with arson. His bond has not been set.
- Jamar Stallings, 38 — Charged with arson. His bond has not been set.

An assessment of the incident by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation revealed that the fire started in a day room of the facility. Evidence also showed that a surveillance camera was disabled and the wires were shorted causing a spark. Langford allegedly used the spark to ignite the fire.
A total estimate of the damage done to the jail has not been determined at this time.
