Four Bulldogs were named to preseason All-SEC teams at the conclusion of SEC Media Days.
LB Erroll Thompson was the Bulldogs’ lone first-team selection as voted on by league media this week. Thompson, the team’s 2019 defensive captain, has racked up 133 total tackles during his MSU career so far, including 14.5 for a loss and six sacks.
Representing the Bulldogs on the second-team are OL Darryl Williams and CB Cameron Dantzler. Williams, a preseason All-American and the Bulldogs’ offensive team captain, allowed only one sack, three quarterback hits and five hurries at LT in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus. He’ll move over to play center this season; replacing Elgton Jenkins.
Dantzler, another preseason All-American, ranked second in the SEC last season among corners with a 41.1 passer rating allowed, according to PFF, and was one of only four SEC cornerbacks that did not allow a touchdown.
Rivers was named to the third-team as he attempts to fill the void on MSU’s defensive line left by Montez Sweat and Jeffery Simmons. Last season, he made 24 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
League media also voted on where each team would finish in the SEC this season, and to no one’s surprise, Alabama is picked to win the conference title over Georgia.
In the SEC West, Mississippi State is picked to finish 5th, and Ole Miss was picked to finish 6th.
