Two deputies involved in a fatal wreck near Hattiesburg have resigned.
The Forrest County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Deputy Chey Sumrall has resigned after he was involved in the crash on HWY 49 on Saturday that resulted in the deaths of 66-year-old Charles Epting and 80-year-old Annie Everett.
Deputy Josh Strickland has also resigned, but it has has been reported that he was in a separate car, and his role in the crash is currently unknown.
Reports indicate that the car driven by Sumrall hit the car occupied by Epting and Everett, but an investigation is underway to determine who was at fault.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Hattiesburg PD are handling the investigation.
