Special Election is being held today in Forrest County. The election will fill the House District 102 seat.
The four candidates running in the election are Cory Ferraez, Missy Warren McGee, Casey Mercier and Kathryn Rehner.
“We are going to be re-electing another member of the house of representatives today and there are only 122 of them so it’s important,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “We want to remind everyone to go cast a ballot. These are individuals that decide your liberties, your taxation, and your education issues and everything else and we just encourage everyone to take five minutes and go cast a ballot today.”
All of the candidates are nonpartisan candidates and Hosemann said voters will not see a party on the ballot when they cast their ballots.
Hosemann said that historically special elections have a low turn out and because of this, there will be short voting lines.
“There are four candidates and so there may not be a clear winner, 50 plus one today, so there will be a runoff on October 3rd if there is a need for a runoff,” said Hosemann.
Hosemann added that if voters are not sure where to vote, they can find out online, by going to Y’all vote and looking up polling locations.
