JACKSON, Miss.- Former Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield will no longer be allowed to practice law. The Mississippi Supreme Court disbarred Winfield after pleading guilty to bribery.
Winfield, an attorney, pleaded guilty in September of 2013 after he tried to get $10,000 in cash from a confidential FBI informant in exchange for a city contract.
The Mississippi Bar filed a formal complaint against Winfield in December 2013, but Winfield did not respond to the Bar’s complaint.
The Supreme Court said Thursday the time for Winfield to file an appeal has passed and it approved Winfield’s disbarment.
Winfield is currently serving a two year sentence for a federal bribery conviction.
