Former Ole Miss standout Shakira Austin will be one of 12 players competing for Team USA at the 2022 FIBA World Cup.
Austin, who was drafted No. 3 overall by the Washington Mystics back in April, is coming off an impressive rookie campaign in which she averaged 8.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Following the announcement by the USA Women’s Basketball National Team Committee, the 6-foot-5 forward went to Twitter to express her excitement.

Austin will be joined by Mystics teammate Ariel Atkins on this year’s Team USA roster. Other players selected are A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu, Chelsea Gray, Kahleah Cooper, Alyssa Thomas, Betnijah Laney, and Brionna Jones.
The 2022 FIBA World Cup gets started on Wednesday in Sydney with the USA looking to win its fourth consecutive World Cup dating back to 2010.
