A former employee with the Ocean Springs Fire Department has been arrested and charged with one felony count of embezzlement.
Dylan James Hults, 28, was taken into custody on Wednesday, October 5 after the fire department’s administrators discovered that funds had been taken from an account owned by the Ocean Springs Firefighters Association (OSFA).
Hults admitted to embezzling the funds while serving as the association’s treasurer before being placed on administrative leave with pay by Fire Chief Derek McCoy, who later recommended the Board of Aldermen to approve Hults’ termination.
City officials confirmed during Tuesday’s disciplinary hearing that the embezzled money came from several fundraisers held in the community and are not considered public or taxpayer funds.
Hults is currently being held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.
