The former No. 1 recruit in the state of Mississippi is heading to Jackson State to play for the Tigers and head coach Mo Williams.
Daeshun Ruffin, who spent his first two college seasons at Ole Miss, announced via social media that he was returning to his hometown to suit up for JSU. The former Callaway four-star averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in 25 outings for the Rebels.
“Even through all the accolades and achievements, some things are for certain – ain’t never forget where you come from,” Ruffin said in a video posted to Instagram.
Ruffin scored 2,337 points in four years as a starter at Callaway. As a senior, the 5’9” point guard was named a McDonald’s All-American after averaging 33.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.8 steals per game.
Previously tabbed as the No. 40 recruit in the country, Ruffin is the highest-ranked player to ever commit to the Tigers.
