Former NFL wide receiver and Terry High School product Xavier Rush has published a new children’s book hoping to help youth live healthier lives.
Rush, who played professionally with the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles, said his own experience with health and wellness is what inspired the book.
“Everyone needs that baseline understanding of health in order to be their best selves,” Rush said on Good Things with Rebecca Turner. “Why not make it nice and simple vocabulary when it comes to fitness and wellness?”
Rush’s book Fitness Alphabet is the first in a four-part series aiming to set youngsters up with a resource that supports their fitness journeys. The series will cover physical, mental, nutritional health, recovery, and more.
He also says that making high-quality resources available to children is just one part of improving their health.
“Having a book like this is one step,” Rush said. “But as adults, we also have to lead by example. We have to show our younger generation that we eat our fruits and vegetables, we stay hydrated, we take our vitamins. In our society, we’re busy and eat fast food – don’t take time to take care of ourselves. So, we want our children to see the right way to do it too.”
The books are part of a larger commitment to improving public health for Rush, who also owns the fitness training company XR Elite. Rush implored parents to check out Fitness Alphabet and join him in the commitment to bettering children’s health.
