Another Mississippian has been called up to the majors, with the Oakland Athletics announcing Tuesday that JT Ginn would be the latest player moved out of the farm league.
Ginn, a native of Brandon, pitched for Mississippi State from 2019-2020 before being selected by the New York Mets with the 52nd overall pick of the 2020 MLB Draft. The Brandon High alum had previously turned down an early opportunity at the professional ranks when he was selected out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 30th overall pick in 2018.
In March 2022, the Mets traded Ginn to Oakland. The right-hander has shined this season in the minor leagues, posting eight wins over 102.2 innings of work. Before the promotion, he was playing with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Ginn is the 70th Mississippi State player to reach the MLB and joins former Bulldog second baseman Justin Foscue (Texas Rangers) as the second to be called up this season. In 2019, Ginn was named National Freshman of the Year, compiling an 8-4 record with a 3.13 earned run average and 105 strikeouts. He had a season-ending injury as a sophomore after just one appearance on the mound.
Ginn will immediately begin work with the Oakland Athletics as the team continues with a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
