A former Mississippi hospital employee has pleaded guilty to falsifying time sheets, per a release from State Auditor Shad White.
Roger Lofton was arrested in January and accused of using his role as a support care professional at the Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield to alter timesheets and steal over $2,600.
Lofton entered a guilty plea on Thursday and will be sentenced on June 4. He could face up to five years behind bars and over $10,000 in fines. He is already being asked to pay back the money he stole.
“We will continue to pursue cases, big and small, to send the message that we have zero tolerance for fraud involving taxpayer money,” White said.
Lofton was prosecuted by District Attorney John “Bubba” Bramlett’s office. The release noted that no surety bond covers Lofton’s employment at the Mississippi State Hospital, which means he is liable for the full amount of demand plus any additional fines through criminal procedures.
